Soaring through the air

Bird of prey flies over me

Pray, take me with you

In her own words:

Alexandra Grace Lyon is a homeschooler going into 8th grade. Writing is very good for her because she can do it in her spare time and count it for extra credit. Not to mention she loves it! To Alex, writing is a very real experience to get away from reality. This is why she prefers to write fantasy.

No matter how much she loves it, writing is not the only thing she does. Alex also likes to act. She likes to sing too, so most of her plays have been musicals, but she mostly sings at church for her worship team. Alex is creative and loves any form of art. Her goal this year is to actually finish a chapter book.

A Twin’s Song
by Alexandra Lyon

I am Melody

                                                                                                                    I am Harmony

                                                        We are twins

People think we’re the same

                                                                                                                     But we’re not!

Harmony is younger!

                                                                                                                    Only by a beat!

Harmony’s a pushover!

                                                                                                      Melody’s self-centered!

Harmony is trouble!

                                                                                                              Melody interrupts!

Harmony is secretive                                                                        Melody’s mysterious

Harmony stands up for me

                                                                                                             Melody’s my guide

You’re my chord!

                                                                                                                  You’re my song!

You’re my best friend!

                                                                                                        You’re my companion

                                                   We need each other!

Forgive and Forget

By Alexandra Lyon

My name is Lulu. I am a cat. My herd of captors are good, well, as far as humans go. I just have one question, why does he torture me so? Timmy, who they call the littlest captor, always picks on me! He’s 35 cat years and is so immature! He always pulls on my ears and tail. He picks me up against my will!

One time he locked me in his room and he and his sister gave me a makeover: makeup, bows, the works! “Stop, Timmy stop! Don’t bother Lulu!” The taller female captor would call. I decided I would never forgive him. Well, I forgave him about the time he was 91 cat years’ old. I was getting older, I mean, 56 cat years —it was time to forgive and forget.

Until one day, all I wanted to do was take a cat nap, who could blame me! So when he left I camped out in his open shirt drawer, waiting, just waiting. When he finally got home and saw me, he shooed me away saying, “Get out of here!” and “Bad cat!” It was very hurtful. I decided I would never forgive him for that.

When he was 105 cat years and I was 70, it was time to let go of hard feelings! So I found a mouse to hunt and brought it to him. When he saw it he yelled, “Ew! Get that out of here!” and he pushed me out. I was very hurt that he didn’t like my present. I was determined I would never forgive him for that!

Never happened when he was 119 cat years. At 84, it was time to reconcile, if you know what I mean. So when he walked in I rolled over on my back so he could scratch my stomach. This time he exclaimed, “Aw!” and picked me up and scratched my stomach and behind my ears. We became the best of friends! We played all the time! He loves me and I love him back! It really was time to forgive and forget.
